...AT OAK WOODS SCHOOL
The campus liaison collaborates with staff to create meaningful learning opportunities during Military Family Month, Veterans Day, and Month of the Military Child. The campus liaison shares book recommendations, celebrates student achievements, and promotes awareness of military families through campus announcements and activities. In partnership with the Fine Arts department, the campus liaison helps coordinate the annual Veterans Day program, which honors military families through patriotic performances, student presentations, and a slideshow recognizing veterans and active-duty family members. During Month of the Military Child, the campus liaison promotes awareness to the importance of our military children by hosting color-themed celebration days. Every branch of the military is assigned their own day and their own color. On Purple Up Day, all students on campus are encouraged to wear the color purple to show solidarity and support of our military children. Student Council Representatives welcome new students, provide tours, introduce peers and staff, and participate in service projects honoring veterans. The military-connected student will have their class  Student Council Representative as their designated "Purple Buddy". They are assigned to help new military-connected students feel included and informed. Welcome Packets are provided for every new family and Welcome Letters are given all existing families at the beginning of each school year. Parents are introduced to the military liaison so that they know who they can contact for military related information, questions, and celebrations. Through these programs and initiatives, the campus liaison helps foster a supportive and inclusive environment for military-connected students and their families.
